Review of anti-inflammatory and nutritional interventions against SARS-CoV-2. Authors emphasize the importance of a healthy immune response in reducing the severity of COVID-19, especially in high-risk groups like the elderly and those with comorbidities. Inflammation and oxidative stress can exacerbate SARS-CoV-2 infections, and the cytokine storm seen in severe cases can lead to organ damage and death. Early and consistent nutritional interventions are proposed as potentially effective prevention and recovery strategies. Multi-nutrient combinations including vitamin D, zinc, selenium, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, flavonoids, and peptides may provide a comprehensive immune boost and reduce inflammation better than isolated nutrients. The antioxidant properties of nutrients like selenium are noted to be especially beneficial in the elderly by reducing viral replication and supporting immune cell function.
